Michelle Elman, on Youtube, runs a body positive book club! She reviews books all about body positive content. Educators, try pairing up your students to read books and discuss important themes, or group read. Try having your students choose from a list of books: Elman provides us with a wealth of them to choose from.
On the flip-side, try having your students read popular young adult books and have conversations regarding the messages being presented about body image. Its just as important for teens to deconstruct societal standards for their bodies as it is for them to have positive messages to replace them.
So, sound off below! How can we learn from Michelle Elman's body positive project and how can we implement those ideas in the classroom? What popular books can we analyze that may not be as body positive? Any other thoughts? Type them below!
